The new Bankruptcy code requires that you produce evidence that both Federal and State Income Taxes have been filed for the last four years in
Chapter 13 cases and last three years in
Chapter 7 cases - If you were required to file returns but failed to do so, you wil not be eligible for bankruptcy relief. Evidence of filing must be produced in the form of a Tax Transcript that can be obtained by following these phone directions (Instructions for receiving a Tax Transcript via US Mail (5-15 days) to the address on the tax return);

Request a Federal Tax Transcript by mail. Form 4506T allows tax returns to be mailed to a third party, for example their bankruptcy lawyer.
